Anybody trailer with a mooring cover on their boat. I am speaking of the type of cover that snaps from the windshield to the transom. I am thinking of having one made for the trips to and from the water. Also for the overnight excursions where we take the boat out at night or just leave it floating.

Most trailerable covers attach with bungees or straps going under the boat.To have one stay on while trailering without straps or bungees going under the boat, you will have to use gromets on the cover with turn locking tabs connected to the boat.Charlie

The snap on mooring cover you're looking for is great when securing the boat for the night or when you're away (why it's called a mooring cover).

Generally you don't trailer with them, unless your speeds are going to stay below 20-30 MPH. Think of what that cover would do in a 60 MPH wind!

Snaps aren't made to withstand that type of force. If you want to trailer with it, go with 'Lift-the-Dot' fastners or quarter-turn lockers. Besides the beating your gelcoat will take as it's flapping in the wind, I would hate to be the guy behind you on the motorcycle when that cover decided it's had enough and leaves the boat.

Re: Mooring cover

I was questioning the towing part of the plan. For that reason, thats why I was asking. That makes perfect sense. Thank You for the fast replies. I'm still getting one made. But just for the normal uses of the "Mooring Cover".

Re: Mooring cover

I just learned that lesson today, had the snap down cover on and the back snaps popped. Now I have half a top and one sick feeling in the pit of my stomach having to shell out more $ to get it fixed.

Re: Mooring cover

Are you talking about canvas or plastic? Like a cockpit cover (from bottom of windshield to transome)?

If so I have towed 4 boats with a canvas cover that snaps from bottom of windshield to transom and never had an issue. No the plastic or nylon ones....not made for it

Mine is the type that snaps to the lower front windshield frame, then all the way around the boat and has a support pole in the center. problem I had today was I think there was too much tension on the pole therefore the snaps in the back let loose or maybe the canvas ripped? I don't know how old it is cause I just got the boat a week ago either way, the back end came loose causing it to flap in the breeze and frayed three inches off the back end fabric and ripped from the transom to the back of the cockpit. It is possibly repairable but it is probably better to just get a new one made. But then again if it,s best not to tow with it on might as well just buy a pull over and not waste cash on snap down ??? Oh the decisions....
