I may have already screwed up a bit, but.....does the "boss" gasket simply slide up to the top of the tube? Ir is snug, but could be tighter on the tube....was not sure what it even did but read some of the old posts here...second- the drain plug in the carb bowl, seal it or not? If so, what with? Lastly....my "sierra" kit has a clip for the float and valve, however since my old carb did not use a clip I did not either.....a post I read advised against this....now I can't find the blasted thing....too small and hard to find. The other reason I did not attempt to use it is I see no where to clip it. The needle has a place but not the new plastic float. Did not see anywhere on the old cork one either. I have dealt with old lawnmower and mini bike carbs that used a clip but they all had places to clip to on the floats......any thoughts????? BTW I have less than good things to say about Sierra parts. I had to use the old float holder rod, as the new one would not clear the bowl area properly and not thrilled at the quality of parts. Guess on these it pays to locate OEM if possible....

That boss gasket slips onto the high speed nozzle, and should be fairly snug. Once you put the float bowl back on, it forms a seal against the float bowl. The drain plug in the bottom of the float bowl does not need sealant. The needle clip is for the newer rubber-tipped needles which tend to stick without the clip. The other end of the clip just slides over the float arm. When the float drops, it pulls the needle down with it. Seems like those float pins are always too long in the aftermarket kits. I usuallly clean and reuse the old ones. Or cut the new ones off.

If I cannot find the clip would there be any harm in either reusing the old setup, or using the new one without the clip? The old parts did not look bad, this carb's old cork float was the culprit.

On my 1954 CD-11 5.5 I used the new float, new float valve and needle, wire clip did not work so I left it off. Engine has 6 gallons of fuel through it now, and I did the Mikuni pump mod so I use a single line tank, works perfectly.
