First stupid thing I did was believe the local weater report over the Yahoo weather report. Local said South wind at 3 MPH, Yahoo said ESE at 15mph. Guess who was right? I got out there and the bay was a mess, so after getting bounced around the boat for a couple of hours I gave up and headed back.

The ramp I used is situated on a canal with high sea walls on either side.. The canal opens to the south, so the rough sea was blowing right up in there, and the bottle neck was making things even worse. The waves were so bad that I had real trouble manuvering the boat close enogh to the sea wall for my wife to hop out to get the truck.

There were two trucks with boats and trailers attatched sitting in the way of the ramp with several older gentlemen standing around shooting the breeze and rubber necking at my boat being pitched and tossed all over the canal. Finally I told Dee that I would get in close and for her to try to get off the boat. Maybe they would get the message that we wanted to get the boat out before the storm front hit. Did I mention the wall of black clouds repleat with lightning that was rolling in? She got off the boat and all the guys standing around gawked at her as she made her way to the truck. Of course they made no movements indicating that were ready to clear the ramp area. Dee started the truck and waited. Nothing. Great. After several minutes of her waiting in the truck and me enjoying my boat turned trampoline, she put the truck in gear and started creeping forward. Now they started to mosey, moseying here and there, milling around between trucks and boats. After at least 5 minutes of this they departed and my honey did a fantastic job of backing the trailer down (her very first time :) ). Miraculously i managed to drive the boat in the general direction of the trailer, where the boat began to hop around and pound all over the trailer. Great. We eventually managed to get the boat secured and pulled out of the water without breaking anything. I just can't believe how some folks are just totally oblivious to basic politeness.

Re: More Boat Ramp Nice Guys

i'm kind of conflicted about the people who sit at the ramp all day all weekend. there are a few locals at the ramp by my house, it's weird to launch and not see them. so in a way, its kind of good because if you see them then you know you're hitting the lake. but at the same time, they're sitting there waiting for the show....for people to mess up. they sit there all day and watch people do stupid things for enjoyment. not to mention, they are the audience that helps your blood pressure rise when you get back to the ramp. you know they're hoping for something to talk about.

its a free world but you won't catch me sitting at the ramp all day. i don't have too many good things to say about ramp rats.

I think the point was that they were sitting gabbing while their boats and trucks were on the ramp blocking her from backing the trailer down.
