I have to wire my boat.. I got the center console and have to install it myself, it came with three switches and a small blade fuse terminal block.
I was going to find a BREAKER panel to use as my on off switching and to be able to reset , with out trying to climb under the console and pull blown fuses and replace!!
but the idea of a breaker as the ON-OFF switch doesnt follow most electrical wiring...doesnt happen in the house!!
I dont want to spend double ...the whole project is costing a lot already.
I think now ideally i would like a row of water proof rocker on -off switches...wired to a fuse panel.
with blade type fuses... that ill mount up under the console on the far side so it isnt so hard to see and reach.
but I cant find a panel with rockers , that doesnt come as a fuse panel or a breaker panel combination.
I want just a row of on -off switches...
I found them individually!! but even then...they are not ON-OFF they are on - on......on -off -on...they are momentary on-off-on
first question how and when is a momentary on/off/on switch used?
second what do you guys think of a breaker switch panel as the source for turning something on or off...like a fish finder or nav lights, or a bilge pump??
I will have maybe 8 circuits total..
if i grease the blade type fuses will they remain water resistant??? it would be rare that they get hit with saltwater spray...but they will be in a salt water invorment...misty conditions often.
I can find "waterproof" breaker and fuse switch panels...but I havent read that the fuse blocks were water proof.
I dont want the old tube-glass fuses....that some panels come with..i have them now on my other boat... they corrode and sometimes they dont twist and rotate easily to come out...and they loose connection often
so i like the breaker and or the automotive blade style fuses.
also...I will use a ground terminal bklock as well...is it true that I dont want to ground to the hull ???? always to a common ground circuit wired to the battery??
I need to get this stuff ordered and move forward!!!
if you know of sources..please list
thanks
