These tabs will outperform any foil on the market. No need to worry about the mounting holes, simply put on the gasket that comes with them or use 5200 and you will be good to go.
I installed a fin on my Baylinner. The nose would just point to the sky. My boat is a cuddy. Now you would think the nose would stay down, nope all the people are in the back. After the fin planes nice and has had very little loss of top speed. I can change outdrives faster than I can transoms. Yes I know you seal those tab screws but do they stay sealed?

Home Cookin' [Qoute for a 17' boat you might be able to just use your trim/tilt and skip the tabs; I do.]

Trimming the motor doesn't do the same thing as tabs! Tabs will gain you performance greatly compared to trimming the motor. Trimming the motor is not an efficient way to adjust the attitude of a boat. It can help some, but very little compared to tabs. Also, Nauticus tabs are cheap and very easy to install. The fuel saving in one season would probably pay for them. They do so much more than get you on a plane faster. Again here is a link to some very good and useful information :)http://www.nauticusinc.com/pdf/nauticus_smart_tabs_tech_info.pdf

Moving gear around is ok but is also a Pita if you have limited room, like on the op's 17 footer and will be limited in its affectiveness. Using your motor to adjust attitude of your boat, is not an efficient way to adjust boat attitude. By trimming your motor, you are changing the thrust direction, which is not efficient and is causing your motor to work harder. The closer you can stay to 90 degrees with your prop the better.

You may also want to try some tabs. Try them and I garrantee you will agree. This is what Nauticus Garrantees, Trim tabs, will decrease the amount of bow rise by 50% or more,Lower planing speed by 35% or more, Faster excelleration, more speed at every rpm, eliminates porpoising at any speed w/out the need to adjust trim on motor, track better in quartering seas, turn sharper w/out cavitation and loss of any major speed, eliminate chine walking. The other things it has done for my boat is eliminated wondering at lower speeds and high speeds, can set the wheel and go! Stabalized the boat while running. Gained me 4 to 5 mph at wot. The reason I have responded to so many of the posts here, is I have seen what these can do first hand. The fuel savings and performance that I have seen from these on my boat for the last two years has been amazing. They have done everything that the Nauticus company had garranteed and more in my case. I would recommend them to anyone. After seeing the performance my dad bought some for his dingy, a Boston Whaler 13'. They have simply been the best upgrade, bar none, that I have made on my boat. And I have made alot of upgrades! Hope this helps a few of you get better performance from your boats. Happy boating.:)
How is the boat running in the water now? I can make my boat ride how ever I want just by adjusting the trim..
If you don't think that thing is helping.. Pull the 4 or 6 bolts and try some runs without it

3000# seems like a lot of weight for that little Johnny:eek: You could move some of your ballast(aka ur gear) around.. Be surprised how moving so of your gear around to the front will change the ride in a boat..

I use to have people ride in different places to help keep my little boat running level:D

Re: More - how to get boat to ride level in water???

I know fins have fans but these are facts...:

A fin on the engine/drive can only push in the middle of the hull, this can introduce a left-right teeter-totter effect especially when turning.

Tabs are at the edges of the hull, most stable place to "work".

Fins are married to the angle of the engine/drive, not always a good mix.

Tabs free the drive from having to do any lifting, thus the trim is used to set the optimum prop attack angle to push the hull forward most efficiently and not have to "pry" the bow up.

The foil affects turning in ways the boat is not expecting, this is due to the geometry of the transom angle and drive angles.

With tabs the geometry from the original design is unaffected.

Re: More - how to get boat to ride level in water???

I know this is an old thread from February, but it's a good one, with some good hints and advice.... Tabs are great for some rigs, fins are great for others. My 14' Gregor aluminum geezer boat with 20hp tiller 4-stroke was a real dog without a Doel-fin. A local shop suggested I try one. See, I like everything mounted near the stern: Me, 6 gallons fuel, tackle box, rods, 2 batteries, even the dog stays back there with me, too. Adding the fin helped 200%. On plane quickly (and stays there longer while reducing engine speed), turns perfectly, tops out at 23+. A small set of tabs may have been just as effective, and offer some extra benefits. Maybe the next time I'll give them a good hard look.
