I have a 1996 30 HP evinrude Mod#E30TEEDE, this is an electric start, tiller unit. VERY happy with it, & it has proven to be a dependable work horse after many hours of use. Is there a way to get a few more HP from this motor without major changes? In no way do I want to compromise how dependable this motor is, more HP isn't that important. I don't remember the numbers off hand, but after trying a few, I do have the correct prop.
THANKS, JOHN

Re: More hp

Use a rat tail file and widen the exhaust ports, fiberglass reeds, .015" shim under the reed stops. Typical mods for the APBA racers........

If it's running good and you're happy with it " just leave a sleeping dog lay ".

Right prop?
You may have the right prop to give you the RPM, but you may not have the right prop to give you the optimum performance. I used to run those engines on the 4-blades originally intended for the 3-cyl 25/35 engines. Might be difficult to find, but superb compared to the 'original' 3-blades.

Re: More hp

Always possible to "tune" a 2 stroke for more power but in an outboard application just not worth it. Best bet is a bigger motor.
Just my opinion though.

Re: More hp

More HP was just a winter thought bouncing around in my head. I asked for advice & I got it, I think the best thing is just to leave this little gem alone. Thanks for all the response, considering that this outboard has NEVER let me down, I will follow the best advice of all "IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT".
