I have a 50 hrs Merc now. When I load my boat the Merc can barely plane. Thats going with the wind. I want to be able to get on plane and cruise at a good speed without plowing or straining the engine. With 75 hp I think that I will still need more umph!![]()

Thanks for the replies. I had learned that selecting a prop is like selecting the proper drive ratio for your car. That is, you can go for either high speed, or maxtorque. So I guess you're telling me that I should decide which I prefer and select a prop that will provide me with a good balance of each...If there is such a thing?
