More performance from Mariner 25

I am currently in Sierra Leone where outboard engines are hard to get hold of. I have managed to get my hands on a Mariner 25 and am wondering if there is anything that I can do to increase its performance. Any Help would be apreciated

Hello Boat mad,<br /><br />The cheapest, easiest and most reliable way to increase the power output of an outboard motor is to sell it and buy a bigger one. <br /><br />The manufacturers have done a pretty good job of getting the best horsepower, torque and reliability from their products. <br /><br />The best thing you can do is to make sure it's propped correctly, use good quality oil and clean, fresh fuel. <br /><br />Good luck and keep posting.<br /><br />Chris..........

first of all, where is serria- leone?<br /><br />im in florida where they grow on trees.<br /><br />i can send you one. seriously, i have shipped motors up to my big inline mercury 115 that i sent to utah.<br /><br />my email is at the bottom of the page<br /><br />chris is right though. not much else you can do to them boogers, these aint 5.0 mustangs now.<br /><br />if the 25 and the 30 or 35 are the same, you could swap out the reeds and carb (maybe) and get worse milage but MAYBE , MAYBE 3 mph more.<br /><br />make sure the bottom of your boat is clean and smooth and check into smart tabs.<br /><br />what type of boat is it on?

PhatMan you are making us Yankees look ethnocentric. Sierra Leone is in West Africa, on the Atlantic Ocean. Not everyone lives in Clearwater Ditto Achris' advice.

It kinda like the old saying "water water everywhere, and not a drop to drink". I'm looking for a 115 but can't find one I can afford. Its probably worse in Africa.

PMM, have you shipped an outboard to a foreign country? Utah isn't one. Much more trouble than you might think.<br /><br />I agree with achris, Boat Mad.<br /><br />There is almost always a lot more performance improvement available in fine tuning the boat and rigging than in modifying the engine. A setback plate, small adjustments to the height of the engine, prop selection, boat balance, trim, etc. can seem to add many cubic inches to an otherwise bone stock engine.<br /><br />By the way, welcome to iboats. Thanks Guys,<br />Much appreciated. Sierra Leone is a hell hole as far as getting hold of anything is concerned. The corruption means that to get an engine into the country by frate will cost you half again of the value, plus they talk about tax at 40%. Hence a 25 was all I could find.

That 25 is pretty much tweaked to the max already. The 18, 20, and 25 are all basically the same motor with certain differences to attain a specific horsepower. As you can see, the 25 is the most powerful of that line already.
