Depending on what you are trying to achieve, swapping out the points for an electronic ignition...
Changing to electronic ignition will do nothig assuming your points are already adjusted correctly.

One good thing about electronic ignition would be less maintenance...as in parts to adjust and/or replace. One of the biggest things is usually easier starting.

I agree with the less maintenance part but I will dispute the easier to start part. Why would it be easier to start assuming the points are adjusted properly?

Like I first said, if the points are adjusted properly, there isn't a difference. As far as points or condenser going bad, the pickup of a pertronix ignition system is way more likely to fail. There are numerous posts on iboats about people having problems with pertronix units. That is why wise people carry points with them still! I changed my points every year as part of my spring maintenance. Never ever had a condenser go bad or points go bad during any boating season.
