I am close to giving up on this motor, took it out for about 9 hours yesterday fishing the river. Was still bogging down every once in a while and completley going dead, but given the circumstances didnt do to bad considering how long I was on the water. But then at the end of the day the tach went out? The fuel gauge was acting funny all day, but I have a feeling that had to do with the ground on the sending unit, as I had the floor boards up cleaning up some wiring the day before, not to worried about that. But what would cause a tach to completley quit like that? I mean nothing at all. I am parking this boat until its right, gonna go ahead and do a carb rebuild, but it looks like now I have some electrical problems I have to track down. Any suggestions?

Another interesting point, my voltmeter gauge on the dash was reading 11 volts, and the voltage gauge on my depth finder was reading 12.2, may or may not be related who knows.

Sounds like you may have a bad rectifier. My 94 48SPL had the same issue. found a burned lead on the rectifier, replaced it this Spring and have had no problems since. There is a link on this site for troubleshooting rectifiers that may help.
