"Where is that pole again?" That is what I was asked one time when we just dropped a net to circle a school of mullet. Needless to say, the boat was in the corner when we hit the pole. It was the quickest I have ever been from the back of the boat to the tower, god that hurt.
"Quick, shoot a flare." As we were passing the Coast Guard station near Morehead City, NC on an outgoing tide and a dead engine. I even hit one of their boats with a sinker. We were in the shipping lane and had 150 foot of anchor rope hanging straight down. We shot off 4 flares and they were never seen. Luckily, another guy that was coming in seen them and towed us to the dock. It was rougher than a cob when we came in the inlet under power. I am sure glad we didn't go out of it without power.
"I won't have any problems following you." I was in an area on the White Oak River that is separated by shoals. A new crew on a Coast Guard V hull decided to follow me out the river when I was in my mullet boat. I got on plane quick and was running in about 8 inches of water and he tried to follow me out. He hit the shoal. I went back and pulled him off it, then showed him around a bit. The next day, I pulled him off again.
"Duck!!!" as we hit a school of mullet that were jumping everywhere. Them bastards hurt when they hit you.
I can go on for hours. I am on the water every day and there is always another mishap or adventure.
