Moth Balls as a fuel additive?

So I have an acquaintance (that's as close as I'll associate myself with him) who puts moth balls in his gas tank every fill up. He either puts in one for every 2 gals, or 2 for every gal, can't remember. He claims more horsepower, and better fuel economy. He says when he was in the military, he was a personal driver for a general who 'taught' him about this. Anyone ever hear of this, or do it, or know what the possible science behind it is?

On second thought...

Adding mothballs to the fuel tank of a car will increase its horsepower.

plausible

The engine still started, but it soon started spluttering. When Jamie pressed the accelerator, the engine sounded more powerful.

If the Mythbusters say it's plausible, that's good enough for me.........:D

Well, Seafoam's main ingredient is napthalene (or is it just naptha?) and it's also the main ingredient in mothballs...

I see where he could have gotten that idea but I think I'd stick to things that say they are actual fuel additives rather than doing something like this.

The solids in the ball will eventually plug something up.
