We meaning the entire family and extended family drove up to Cochiti lake for a camp out lunch/dinner Mothers day celebration. As this is a putt-putt or no wake lake I don't like it much.
I ended up launching three times! Everyone wanted a ride however, when the last bunch showed up the winds were blowing. Nobody wanted to go.

So I had left my brother in the boat to wait for me and the next group. We were supposed to load the boat and have cake/icecream with the family.
Well my brother was watching a man and a woman paddle about in a canoe. He was telling me the man left the woman off at the dock and was having trouble with the bouy and then was traveling across the lake. The next thing I knew was the park ranger come racing up to the dock and jumps out of his truck and come racing up to the boat. My brother tells me the guy just flipped his canoe and the ranger asked if we could help. Off we go! love having the ranger on the boat so we can move!

The guy unloaded his wife as she thought the lake was a bit windy and rough. He was in the back of the canoe alone and with the battery and electric motor. The wind came up in a gust and a wave broke over the rear of the canoe the bow went up and he was in the drink!
We actually rescued the guy and his canoe too.
We then went and retrieved most of his equipment.
He lost the battery and trolling motor and got a ticket for- not wearing his PFD.

We even recovered the dogs bowl.

The best part is that since were were having a blast lets troll up the river. Having never cought a fish here I figured it was an excuse not to load up. We caught 8 nice white bass.

The worst part is the family thinks we made up the canoe rescue.

Woo Hoo! Excellent work.

Can't believe nobody else has read this!

Maybe you can pickup their local paper (call the paper's office) with that article, any small town should have that article in their paper, and keep it!

What a cool story!

If it isn't a deep lake.... go dredge for that motor :)

I nowe have read a post and I screwed up I went over to the guy on the port side. I was driving on the starboard side so In reality I shoulda gone to starboard to pick him up.

I think thats why the swim ladder is on the starboard side too.

Well, glad he's not prop-cut stew-meat :)

Still, an excellent story and you learned more about saving a life... pass it along. I would be willing to guess that very very few boaters ever experience it, but once you do you are better equipped the next time should it happen.
