Is Striper Day here on Cape Ann. Schoolies should be hitting our coast by Mothers Day. The big stripers should be a few days behind the schoolies. There are plenty of sand eels on Stellwagon Bank and the whales are feeding heavy.

Bottom fishing for haddock should be good. The commercial boats are tied up till the first of June so there should be some good cod fishing in another week or two. Cod will settle in now that all the draggers and gill netters are high and dry.

Another week or two the black back (flounder) fishing should heat up on the gravel bottom.

Once again the inshore commercial fishing for herring will be band from area 1 this is an inshore area. the herring boats will have to go off shore to catch their fish.

Re: Mother's Day

The cod fishing has not been all that great.
Speaking with the Yankee Fleet boats that have started their fishing trips, the catch has not been good. Their first day was one fish out of 47 people on board. The second trip was two fish. these trips were all day fishing trips.

You want to catch cod fish? talk to Rolmops, he will put you in touch with one of the best bottom fishing captains in our area.

Hi Rolmops, how have you been? Hope everything is well with you. I haven't been on IBOATS for a few months, kinda like a sabatical. You must be getting ready for the stripe bass fishing season. Hope ya have a great season.

Re: Mother's Day

And a good day to you Flyrod.
I have been very well.Trying not to work too hard and I did some traveling in Europe in the early winter.Stockholm and Amsterdam.
How is the cod you are asking?
In February it was very good indeed with 40 pounders galore, but only in the spots where the draggers could not go and the gill nets could not be set because of rocks and treacherous currents.
Right now it is in between. The big ones are done spawning and they are retreating to deeper water. The smaller ones are starting to hit Stellwagen and they will be around until the first of June when the gill netters will eradicate them. It is a bit too early for haddock on the bank.they need a week or so of warmer weather to come up north.
This year I plan a 24 hour charter to Cashes Ledge.I tried to talk Kevin into taking us but he wants to be home with wife and kids and quite frankly,he does not know those waters.Cashes ledge is recuperating very nicely and they are catching eighty pounders again.Only problem is the 80 mile trip each way,but it is weird to be that far out and dropping a line down to find the water is only 30 feet deep!!
They are catching 50 pound halibut on the sand flats over there. So far it is catch and release but the breeding program that Maine initiated a few years ago is starting to bear fruit or they are just coming down from farther up north.
I cannot advertise Kevin on this board, but anyone who wants to catch cod should shoot me a private message and I will pass the information on.

Re: Mother's Day

hello, I was wondering if you could give me some advice on striper and/or cod fishing in the south shore area?
