Motor advice please?

Hey guys a local gentleman has a 1996 Johnson 15 hp. Motor looks super clean, but he says the last time he ran it was 2004. Motor has been garage kept. He’s asking 1000$? Is this too much? And if I purchased this motor, would you replace impeller since it sat that long? Thx

Water pump impeller must be replaced.----These motors run very nice and better than the earlier smaller displacement version.-------These motors are in demand.$ 1000 is a fair price.------Hear it run before handing over money.

Thanks racerone. Is impeller an easy change in that motor? I’ve changed a few, but only in the older 9.9 evinrudes. Thx

It is exactly the same procedure as the earlier models.-----No difference whatsoever.-----Unless of course it is a 4 stroke.----No model # posted.-------Should be a requirement for any assistance on these websites.

Ok.. not it’s not a four stroke.. I didnt have model number sorry.. I was really just asking if it was worth 1000$ for a 1996,

Replace thermo or thermo kit as well, those thermos are Jurassic ones. OB will work much better. Fan $ 800 on sellers face and see what happens. Cash money talks much better..

Impeller replacement is the same from 74 to 2007 models.----Except 4 stroke that use the same lower unit but different driveshaft and shift rod.
