Motor and Boat sizing

I am considering purchasing a Lund WC16 DLX and putting on a Yamaha 25 4 stroke. The main reason for the 25hp is that I will be fishing Minnesota Border lakes that have 25hp restrictions. If not for this I would probably go to a 40hp.

I'm getting some feedback from dealers and other people that the 25 may not be enough motor for this boat. I selected this boat because it has the flooring and other features I like but only weights 420lbs. I could have as many as 3 grown people in the boat. I selected the Yamaha because it appears to be one of the lightest 25HP 4 strokes as well.

Any other feedback on this combination would be helpful?

Jim
I have a 1993 Lund Explorer, powered by a 1990 Johnson 30 HP (108 LBS). My boat weighs approx. 540 Lbs. I'm using a 10 x 13 prop and get about 26 MPH GPS with 3 adults and fishing gear.

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking my combo might work alright. By the way. Lund must have added a tone of stuff to the Explorer since 1993. A new 16ft explorer Tiller comes in at 960# based on their spec sheet.

Jim,
The 1993 Explorer is like a 2006 Rebel. My explorer has a 75" beam. The new Explorer 1600 has an 86" beam.
