Hello,
I am looking to either thoroughly clean or replace the white rubber seal between the upper and lower engine covers. The ones on my Johnson twin 140's are stained with mildew black. I have tried on/off and it remains. Can these seals be purchased for replacement? (Where?) Any recomendations for cleaning agents?
Thanks.

Re: Motor cover seal

Sorry I don't have a sure fire answer for you. If I had this problem I would get some mold killer stuff (cleaner) scrub it down, then paint them. I repaint those things quite often. Painting seems to last good, good for the cost and trouble. Of course the paint tends to crack a little over time. In that case I just scrape it down, mask it off, and shoot it again. Unless those gaskets are way beyond use,I can,t justify the cost and labor of replacement.

I would suggest using the same mildew remover you would use in your shower. I use it for cleaning and removing mildew from the fiberglass shell on my son's pickup, on my boat and engine, including the rubber engine cover gasket and I even use it in my own shower.
I suggest you use a name brand, as I have found off brand or bargan brands don't work as well. Also you might want to use rubber gloves and don't use it in a closed area, as the ingredients are quite strong.
........Bob in Calif......

condor,

I have painted them also. It seems to last just fine.

They are a bear to replace, they are stapled/glued on.
