Re: Motor Cranks, Runs, but Won't Push Boat???
Hi,Sandy. What Spinner Bait Nut is talking about is called the hub of the prop. It is a rubber donut that is pressed into the prop's center, that the splined prop shaft turns. these act like a weak link in a chain, and are designed to slip, or "spin-out" as they say. It's hard to tell sometimes that there is anything at all wrong with the prop, but take the prop off, and take it to a prop shop. There is usually one in any town near water,or many machine shops can help.
I don't really remember, but I believe your engine would have an actual "shear pin". This is a small soft steel, nail-like pin that goes thru the prop shaft and prop's hub.If you hit something,it breaks..On purpose. It the same job as the hub spinning out ,only it shears into three pieces. When this pin shears, you're done until it is replaced. Most folkscarry a spare pin or two, or a spare prop, and the tools required to change it out. That way,you can get right back in the saddle.

Of course, there may also be an internal problem in the lower unit's gear case. But these twpo items generally fail, protecting the gear train.
