Help...I have a 1974 Johnson 50...2 cylinder....the motor idles great and free revs great...but as soon as it goes into gear it boggs and dies instantly. I noticed both carbs had a crack in the flange that attaches to the intake manifold...I could actually see onto the carb!........could this be the problem?...I bought 2 new carbs on ebay,,cleaned them up and will install them this weekend......thanks for any help! :)

Try taking the carbs off and clean it. I had the same problem and it looked clean but you actually have it take it off and blow it out with a air gun and brake cleaner!

If the carb body is cracked and you can see into, there is no way to get it to run correctly. Switch carbs and see what happens.

good way to check for cracks and if your gaskets are good or tight enough is to spray carb cleaner between the intake manifold and carbs with the engine running at idle. if the idle changes or you see extra smoke out the exhaust there is a problem
