Have found a Elgin 7.5 h.p. Model 571 58772 that appears to be never used and is in apparent excellent condition. My problem so to speak is that I need a O.B. motor for my dingy. Should I try to use this one or see if anyone wants to buy it? I am not particularly intested in an antique O.B motor but would like to have motor for dingy-
any motor.

Re: Motor Dilema

Hello Cuznbill
Here is my opinion. I still see guys running these things. Most are opening day only fishermen. I personly don't think much of these motors. The lower units don't seem to hold up very well. They make a lot of noise and because they are not rubber mounted they vibrate alot. Your motor is a 1954 model. I wouldn't call it an antique, but defenatly a classic. I don't collect old motors either so as far as value is concerned I really don't know. I would think $50. or less. Now if you can make this motor serve your needs, by all means go ahead and use it. If it were me, I'd find her a nice safe home with a collector, and go buy and outboard.

Cuznbill,
Im sure many would be interested in your motor both as a collector and a user.
Price is very hard to pinpoint but if it is comeplete and as you describe you may have a strong though narrow sellers market.
Look around on the net I believe there is a Elgin club out there.Put her out there for best offer.
