Hello everyone,

Motor 1987 Force 50

I just got this motor for my boat and it runs great but the key switch does not shut the motoor off.

The key switch is wiried like this in a clockwise patter starting at the top if the pic is not clear

Orange (M) Red (B) Black (M) Yellow (S) Green (C) Blue (A)

The wire block on the motor is wiried how it says by color.

Any suggestions of how I can get the key to kill the engine?

Thanks!

Re: Motor does not shut off!

Judging by the coils I can see, that is electronic ignition. The switch is wired incorrectly.

Remove the black and orange wires from the terminals. attach the white wire to one "M" and the blue wire to the other "M"

Attach the orange wire to the "A" terminal. No need to attach the black ground wire to anything, just tape it so it doesn't bounce around and contact a live terminal.

Going back to the photos, I can see that the jumper buss is not attached to the blue terminal. SO: At the engine terminal board, the big one with twin terminals, attach the flat metal jumper from the black ground to the blue terminal.

Thanks a ton Frank, that solved the problem and it actually shuts off without me having to choke the carb with a rag!
