My '84 Evinrude 235 has a poor hole shot and doesn't reach very high RPM. It is on a 17' tri-hull and has a 14.5x23 ss prop.

It helps the hole shot if everyone is up front, or out of the boat. It seems to reach a top RPM of 5000 and a top speed of 55mph irregarless of load. The specifications of the motor are as follows: 4750-5750 recomended engine speed, max power at 5250.

The boat has rebuilt carbs, a new power pack, and the VRO has been disabled. The mechanic told me not to plug the oil inlet on the VRO, i'm gona try plugging it. I don't see how air isn't getting in with the gas.

I also have concerns that the prop is to big (23") or that the lower unit is too low in the water (too much drag). I can trim the motor up quite a bit before it loses bite.

I am told this boat would pull up multiple skiers and go 70mph in its prime, something is wrong.
