Anyone know how or if you can adjust the foot control tension on a MG 71? Look like a drunk trying to troll. The slightest pressure makes it turn? Somebody help before I go overboard.

Could still use advice. I called MG and they said it could not be adjusted as it was not a tour model. If you have a way let me know.

Re: Motor Guide 71 foot pedal tension

remove the top cover. then remove the screws (8)from the rack assy. then lift the rack assy. off of the pinion gear. you can lift it up far enough to do this without cutting the wires. you will notice a allen set screw that locks the pinion gear, loosen the set screw, you will now be able the turn the pinion gear. turn the gear clockwise just a little, then tighten the set screw back down. this will load the bearing assy. just a little more. adjust till you get the tension you feel comfortable with. just make sure you get the set locked back down. then reassemble rack guide assy. and top cover. let me know how everything turns out, or if you have any more questions.

Thanks trumanlake. Went to the lake today but the fish were biting. Hope to try your advice later this week.
