After I run for awhile and slow to no wake speed my motor will die and I have to remove the fuel filter and fill with gas before it will start. Anyone have an idea why. The filter will be down a couple of inches.

Restriction up stream either clogged screen (some are inside pick up tube), leak in connections so you are sucking in air, anti siphon valve is clogged, collapsed fuel line, maybe a clogged fuel tank vent line but would think that would not happen while idling

Thanks
Will look at all this. I have wondered about the return line from the carb to the filter may have a tiny hole. Plan on checking this all out before going out in sept

You have an air leak in the system somewhere between the tank and the fuel pump. Possibly a crack in the filter housing due to a fitting being over-tightened.

There is a return line from a box down on the side of the engine back to the filter. What is this and could there be a air leak there. Haven't been able to take t[he cover off of this yet.

Probably a cool fuel unit I assume it is an mpi engine it returns excess pressure down stream from pressure Regulator

Just for an experiment leave the engine cover open while on plane and duplicate the slowing down procedure. If it stays running, you could be getting vapor lock from heat in the engine enclosure.
