If your fuel line has a quick disconnect, un-plug the fuel line when not in use.

If directly connected, install a shut-off valve on board anywhere convienent.

I don't know about any 'ceramic' pump parts, but I have notice many times J/E's loading/filling the carbs with oil if the fuel line is connected and unused for long periods, from days to months. Most all of these boats the fuel tanks where even with of above the level of the carbs, mostly pontoons.

Drain the oil out of the float bowls, starts up and runs fine.

2 strokes are gonna smoke a bit. The trick is firing them quickly so as not to allow to much fuel/oil to burn off. You need a full charged battery to get that v4 spinning above 300rpm for a good spark. A link/sync will ensure all cylinders are being fed equally. Generally speaking your in neutral, bulb primed, 1/2 throttle, key to on, hold in for 8 count, turn key to start and she'll fire or try to.

there has been some problems reported with the carbs getting oil in them. the solution i don't know. disconnecting fuel line is not the solution, as that is fuel, not oil.

Could it be that the fuel pump is leaking on the oil side? Sounds typical of that problem.

Tried disconnecting the fuel ,it has a oil tank so mixs it when running,Even drained the carbs by running the motor dry when flushing out the motor after use, Smokes bad takes about ten mintes some times to start ,Have had it into shop but has always been the day after useing it so it always starts fine,The guy I was talking to said the oil pump crackes and leaks oil into the motor (meaning the carbs I think) and that it was a comin problem for some of the johnsons and that the new pump was up to $800 JUST FOR THE PUMP Need to know if hes pulling my leg or not Have worked a bit on boat motors Done heaps with motor bikes cars etc, so not brain dead when it comes to finding some falts So I thought I would ask the experts first cheers,Is there any sites where you can get a break down of the motor or do you have to buy a manual if so what brand is a good one to buy

not sure exactly which model # your motor is but the most expensive pump for an 03 runs $360 here on Iboats. I would definitely get a Johnson OEM manual specific to your motor. If you want to rule out the pump, premix the fuel in the tank 50:1. If you have enough slack in your oil tank line cut it 4" from the pump and plug it with a bolt and hose clamp. You will need to plug the line to the tank as well to avoid spillage. Disconnect the electrical plug at the pump and secure the connections. The pump will now have no way of over oiling the fuel, if that is indeed what your problem is.
