I haven't seen a trailering bracket exactly like the one marked (?). It did not come with the motor when it was new. Anyway it is for trailering your boat and has to get out of the way somehow before running the motor. Usually they just drop down out of the way.
THEN, the motor can drop down till the area marked (1) contacts and locks to the tilt pin.
ok, i had a feeling that wasnt original. the motor is unable to lock into the down postion with that bracket on there, so it looks like i will have to take the bracket off when in the water, and put it back on when trailering.

One nuther thing to consider: Most transom savers have disclaimers to the effect of "for use with power tilt" only. If you go with one of those, be sure to tie the motor down securely so it can't bounce up and off - I'm not sure a bungee would suffice for that.
