When lifting a Johnson 75 with the factory lifting eye ,should the motor be in the up or down position to balance properly. We are moving the motor from one boat to another. Thanks
What year 75 is that? If like most OMC engines the eye is next to the flywheel and the motor will balance with powerhead up and foot down...just like the way it mounts on the transom.
Bill, i'm not sure of the year, it is a friends motor but the eye is by the flywheel. it is a VRO motor if that helps. Was just wondering if its best to have the motor in the tilt position or not.
The lifting eye is probably right behind the flywheel. Put the motor down in normal running position to lift it off. I've never tried lifting one when raised in the tilt position but its easy to move the motor around when hanging on the eye.
It might be that raising the motor a little will help I know when i pulled my 70HP Johnson off my boat last week I did it with the motor down level and when I pulled it above the cleats on the motor the lower unit swings out and the power head forward like it would be at tilt.
