Re: Motor manufacturer ratings?

sschefer- I am not quite sure how long you want to wait for "somebody" to test them (work the bugs out), but we are now 5 years into the Evinrude E-tec. Production started in 2003 as a 2004 model year outboard... I wouldn't consider it to be a new concept any more...it has developed quite an impressive track record.

Do a bit of research.... Although not perfect, the reports here are quite impressive...

Yamaha!!!! There may be others out there as good, but I haven't owned one yet. Didn't join this forum 'till this summer, but ran my first boat back in the 70's. I won't harp on all the bad ones, but of the three yamahas with thousands of hours on them, nothing has broken yet. I maintain them and they get regular maintenance and I use factory manuals to determine that.
Also, seems like the Coast Guard has gone to hondas for their small boat use. As far as four stroke, we hear a lot of good things about the Zukes....good luck with whatever you buy, and we always like pictures! :)

None of the manufacturers make the "best in class" in all motor sizes. To make meaningful comparisons you have to break the motors down by HP.

The other issue is local service. Even the best motors need service. What good is a reliable motor to you if you can?t get in service or repaired locally?
