Cheers boaters.

just picked up a 21 foot sportscraft with 4.3 merc. upon looking at the rear motor mounts it seems that there are differences in distance from in the gap between the actual mount and the top of the bolt that is going through the mount. there is maybe a half inch difference between the left and right side....

Is this something i should be worried about?

Re: Motor Mount Question

Yes. Both sides should be the same. Could be bad mount or hardware assembled wrong. Any prob there will affect engine alignment causing rapid coupler wear.

Re: Motor Mount Question

depending on how old the boat is, there is a good possibility that one of them is sagging... I just replaced a set. It's not nerly as bad a job as many would suggest. In retrospect, I don't even think I would have had to completely remove the engine from the boat to do the job...

the other thing to check carefully is that they're put together right. Is the left side lower?

Re: Motor Mount Question

I have recently been scratchin my head to understand this. Here's what i am wondering also. There seems to be washers or spacers that cap the underside mount. If the engine has been removed recently one of these washer/spacer/bushings or what ever you want to call it, may have fallen off and found its way to the bilge. The one side of this washer is concaved which leaves me to belive that it faces down. I think I need to lift up the engine ever so slightly and slide this washer or spacer back in. This should give me a level base.

Check to see if they are both there. I haven't looked at mine yet but because of the slight clunck at idle (it goes away upon increasing the rpm's) I'm thinking i have one on the stbd side and nadda on the port side. Giving me an alignment issue. sounds possible?
