Re: Motor Mount repair of my Cruiser's Rogue 2420

spent the day grinding.....and grinding.....and grinding....and grinding..... all this to get some damp wood out :(

then I had to remove about 8" of foam between the hull and outer most stringers to get access to the rear U-bolts/transom tie down points. removing foam is a PITA. large filet knife to make main cut, then a bunch of small cuts, followed by chipping it out with a screw driver. working between the transom, and the rear panel for the interior. about 12" wide area. not fun....... tried to "pop" out a section with a prybar, and it simply fought back due to lack of space.

transom is half PB (actually, I think body putty). only wood is the 40" wide area around the outdrive, and two 6 x 6 x 1/2" panels for the rear u-bolts/transom tie downs. the rest of the transom is really curved, and has a layer about 5/8" thick of what looks like body putty between multiple layers of roving. going to leave the body putty and roving sections alone, just ruff-n-scuff for another layer or two.

since I cant get in that area vary well were I removed the foam, I will grind the two 6 x 6 panels out with 36 grit....... more grinding..... tomorrow. doubt if I will replace with wood, thinking 3 layers of 1708 over a layer of tiger hair and call it done, re-install the transom tie-downs and re-foam.

A bit more grinding tomorrow and I can start cutting wood to put humpty dumpty back together again.

Re: Motor Mount repair of my Cruiser's Rogue 2420

more grinding today...... and itching......

got the whole area prepped

then decided to tackle the two 6 x 6 reinforcements for the stern eyes.

wet wood is a PITA. it doesnt grind, it just smokes. contorting myself in this area (between the stringer and hull) not a natural area to work in.

after a few hours I discovered that the transom is Balsa under the body putty. the area around the unsealed trim tabs is wet.

so tomorrow will be a bit more grinding. going to modify another saw blade. fiberglass is not conducive to tool longevity.

note to self.....make the next coolers only as long as your arm.......

have resin in my hair for trying to get to end of coolers.

wood is all cut, just waiting for temp to get back up over 60 tomorrow morning. finish the coolers, push them into the compartments, install the bulkhead.....

This is typically what happens. Once you start digging it just never seems to stop. You'll eventually get there.

#$%@!@$@#$^^&&* weather. living 3 blocks from the lake has its advantages. just not when wanting the temps to stay above 60 for resin to cure.

Assembly:

working outside with a steep road and hill was a pain. we are still in a drought, so I kept tracking in dirt every time I would walk on the boat.

WOW! Nice wrap up!
You seem to know your way around fiberglass and wood repair. I take it this is not your first rodeo?

One more question...The height of your engine mounts. Do they have to be PERFECT? Is within 1/4 inch from factory acceptable or???

Re: Motor Mount repair of my Cruiser's Rogue 2420

there is adjustment in the mounts. I made mine taller to eliminate 1" wood spacers that were installed. my mounts have about 1" total adjustment. I am now at the bottom of the adjustment. I did have the ability to measure the old mounts as they were just wet and not rotted.
