Motor not sending charge

Hi, im new to boating and just bought my first boat,i have 1972 chrsyler outboard 105hp. I am not recieveing a charge form the motor to the battery. According to the diagram on the motor the purple wire is for the generator so i followed it up and it goes all the way up to the the key ignition switch and is not connected to anything. The ground wire is also just hanging there not connected to anything either. My question i how is it supposed to be wired up? Thanks for any help!
