My grandfathers I believe 1985 Mariner outboard motor hasn’t been pissing as well as it used to. On my lake there is a shallow channel that we run through and it is very mucky, my boat doesn’t have trim or tilt so it stays down, it doesn’t **** very well when it’s idling but when I give it throttle it’s better, every time I run through the channel I open the motor up to try and clear the muck out, I want this motor to last so is there a way to clean it out, maybe there’s muck in the water intakes?
Thanks

Welcome aboard.

The muck abrades the rubber impeller. When was it changed?

With the conditions the boat is used in may mean more frequent impeller changes are needed.

Welcome aboard

if you want it to last, do the required preventative maintenance. change the impeller every few years, service the carbs every few years, touch up the paint as needed, change the lower unit oil every year, grease the prop shaft every year, grease the pivot pin and tilt pin every year

it sounds like the raw water pump needs to be replaced.
