I am looking for a little advice on mounting a new 50hp in place of the 35 hp. The new motor doesn't let the boat plane out. It seems like it is plowing??? The new motor is heavier, so it may make the boat set to low in the water. Would this not let the poon plane out???

Sounds like the motor needs to be trimmed out some. Move the trim pin up a hole to start & keep going until you get it right. Assuming it doesn't have electric tilt/trim.

As in a Nose-Down attitude ?????
Or a Nose-High attitude ???

Just How Big is this pontoon boat ????

Unless this is a Very Tiny Toonboat,
I can't feature the weight difference between a 35hp,+ a 50hp should make it behave so Poorly.......

BTW, Welcome to iboats forums................. :D

It is 18ft. The nose is up quite a bit compared with the older motor. Thanks Steve...

Sorry, if the nose is up, try trimming the motor in. You'll have to play w/ it.
Also maybe the motor isn't propped right.
It sounds like you need to play w/ the setup a bit.
See if your dealer that sold you the motor will take a look at it if you can't figure it out.

Re: motor on pontoon boat?

The motor was bought used, but I did go to a prop shop and bought a new prop specifically for a pontoon boat once I encounterd this problem. I am beginning to think that the weight of the new motor may set the rear of the boat further in the water. So, I may have to lift my motor up some.....Thanks Steve

If you have good sized pontoons it shouldnt squat too much I would mess with the trim and maybe the weight.
I have an 94 18 Starcraft with a 88 50 evinrude 2 stroke it works great I think it is out one notch. There are two tanks and a battery on the rear deck.Top speed isnt much I would guess 21 to 23 mph.It levels out to a very nice angle. It is a little sensitive to ventilation under certain conditions but I live with it.

I wouldn't say they are the larger ones, but they are pretty big. Thanks for the information and I'll give it a shot....Steve
