motor question

what year did mercruiser start putting fuel injection in there motors. is there a 3.0 EFI?
next question is the block of 3.0 length is it the same of 305 V-8 front to back my question is can you switch out a I-4 to a V-8? small block with out moving the front motor mount in front of the water pump? or is there more to this.

1. I'm not even sure if Merc has EFI on the 3.0L yet, Volvo does, and it was either early this year or late last year it came out.

2. The V8 engines do not have a front motor mount like the 3.0L. They have mounts on the side of the engine.

3. The exhaust pipe going to the transom shield is a Y pipe for V8 engines.

4. The gear ratio is completely different in the outdrive between a V8 and a 4 cylinder engine.

5. NO, you can't just change props to make up for the wrong gear ratio.

Depending on the boat you might not even have the room/depth. I was gona buy a 470 3.0 for my boat and i didnt have enough room. I have a 19 ft sea sprite cuddy cabin. Usually if the boat comes with a thats all your fitting. At least from my experience. Hope i helped goooooood luck dude

A 470 is not a 3.0L engine. The 3.0 is a good engine.

I did some reserch and the common setup was outbord or I/O 3.0L or V-8 5.0 i would think maxum woud keep one body mold for the sterndrive?

i look that up and saw the motor mounts on the V-8 is that front motor mount how is it secure to the boat bottom is lag in to wood or is it metal?
