I have a 1993, 150HP EFI on my trophy. Tell tail on motor seems intermittant and not constant flow. Seems to be thermally controlled. Is this normal for this year Mercury?

Re: Motor question

Any idea when the water pump and thermostats were last changed? If you are unsure, then it's a good idea to replace them anyway. Take some thick weed eater line and clean out the telltale hole and blow out your water lines around the engine.

Re: Motor question

I believe the mechanic changed the pump when I bought it. He said that year Merc does that. He said it allows the motor to get up to temp quicker. Kind of makes sense but have always seen Mercs put out a good spray when running and this does not look normal. Underway and with some throttle it is a more constant flow coming out. Not sure that the thermo was changed at all. I am putting it into the shop on friday to check out the warning alarm on the motor. Will quiz him some more then.

Re: Motor question

If you want a good mechanic for Mercs take to Marks Mercs out on S. Commercial St. at CPS RV. He is very reasonable and knowledgable. I was curious about my 150 Merc with the stream of water and he fixed it . I have a 1994 2002 wa with a 150 MERC and just love the boat.

Re: Motor question

Did Mark drill yours out to allow the constant flow? I heard a lot of guys are doing that . I just don't want to screw something up on the motor. My trophy is a 1992 2002WA, 1993 Merc 150hp. Great boat so far!

Yes he drilled it out and it seems to be working much better. Also he said it would allow the thermostats to work better and you wouldn't get false overheating alarms. So far so good. Great boat and I'm very happy with it.
