Hello, I had another thread, but I decided to make a new one because I have more information.
I have a 1973 Ford 302 Engine with a Volvo I/O Motor. This motor has been kept outdoors and was last run empty on gas. It has not been run for several months. Here is the problem. I have to start it in neutral, I pump the throttle 3 times and go 50% Throttle. Then I reduce the throttle to around 25%. Any lower and it quits. It can run for 20 minutes at 25% and it still does this. It is always in neutral (the button that engages the gears for the motor is pulled out). So when the throttle is low, it's no good, so I can't get it into a position to engage the motor ever, unless I start it with 50% gas in gear..... Also the previous owner said he had this problem and had to redo the carb.
With the throttle at "idle" it will not run, it must be at 25% or more. It sounds like it runs around 1500 rpm's before it dies. It should idle at 600.
Here is what I have done:
Verified that the throttle properly moves the throttle on the carb.
Played with the mixture settings, returned to previous setting
Messed with the idle speed settings, returned to previous setting
Removed the carb, took out the bowl and cleaned it out
My next step is to clean out all the jets in the carb completely like the previous owner did. Does anyone have any other ideas?
