motor raises in reverse

Hi guys and thanks for any help in advance. I just bought a new to me 1994 stratos 284 dc with a 150 faststrike. When I put it in water for first time today and hit reverse the motor raised up. I know theres a latch or something on it to catch when the motor goes down can anyone help? Thanks

Check the manual release valve on the t/t unit for being tight. It's a slotted screw on the port side of the t/t unit.
