Motor Repaint with Pictures - I Hope!

About 10 years ago I bought my 1988 23' Wellcraft CC. It had a pair of 1.6L OMC Sea Drives that were in the original factory metalic charcoal grey finish. The motors held up fairly well over the years but the cowls did not. I would get these quarter sized blisters in the paint which I would sand down and go over with a sprey can. It finally got to me and I decided it was time for a repaint.

The most time consuming part of the job was the sanding and prep as those of you have done it know. This was followed by a primer and more sanding. The top coat was Western Hi-Glo Synthetic Enamel.

I chose to do it in black to confuse the Mercury folks. Here are the results - I hope the pictures are OK as I'm new at posting them.

It took longer than I thought it would but I am pleased with the result.

Looks good, and I know its a lot of work, one should only do for oneself. First time I'v seen seadrives on a boat, very rare here. That bracket was a great idea, saves space in boat and sits great on transom too. Cool boat with lots of power. How big is your gas tank ??

G Dane - The boat is adequately powered for our use but I wouldn' say lots of power. I sure wouldn't want any less. She seems to like 42-4400 rpm which gets us in the low to mid 30s. She holds 122 gallons of fuel and is quite economical for her size, weight & power. Most of our boating is in Biscayne Bay and the upper Florida Keys including Florida Bay.

Looks good, has a sinister Darth Vader-iness about it. Very cool....

Humm While I love the black engines , I doubt many "Merc" lovers will be confused. Love the Blue trim ! Maybe you could take off the Welcraft sticker and put on a Chrysler emblem on the back !

Maxi - Love the Chrysler emblem idea - I'll put that on one motor and - - - let's see - - - How about putting a Gale or even Scott Atwater emblem on the other. That ought to drive folks nut!
