78' 25hp Johnson, do I need to adjust carb or what? Any suggestions? It doesn't want to open up with cowling on.

Possible exhaust leak under the bonnet, Chip.

More detailed info would help a lot.

Cranks up fine, put it in forward and it acts as if it is lugged down. Put it in neutral and pull cowling off, put it back in forward, and it is off to the races. What is a bonnet? Thanks for answering posts! Hope this helps.

"Bonnet" is the same as "cowling". I just like the sound of it better.

it sounds like it could be an airway obstruction.

you may not have the original cowling. make sure there is a way for air to get into the cowling.

it may be in the bottom of the motor pan under the carb ( the part the cowling clamps to ) or a vent in the cowling itself. you need an airway at least as large as the opening in the carburetor.
