I just got my 1996 Evinrude 225hp v6 looper back. The powerhead was rebuilt along with all six carbs. all new fuel lines. new fuel pump. i'm running 25:1 during the break-in.

Anyway, first time on the water yesterday. it starts right up and idles for about five minutes an then it wants to stall. after i run it for any period of time around 3200-3700 rpm it will idle good for about another 5 minutes and then stall. when i put it into gear forward or reverse, it will stall unless i go straight to 1/4 throttle. it runs great except for shifting into gear. temp gauge is right were it is supposed to be and the water pump pressure is good.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

First thing is idle adjustment. It should idle about 750rpm in gear. If that's ok, then have a look at the link & sync.

c/6

Hooty

thanks hooty

It idles at 800 rpm when warm.

I'm taking it back to the mech for adjustment. I'll post the results here when done.

Will...just to underscore Mr. Hooty's post....the key words in his post are "in gear". Lots a' folks take idle to be just setting running in neutral. Just thought I'd throw that in. Hope ya' get her going OK.

jim, your right. In neutral (not in gear) it will idle about 800 rpm. In gear it just drops off and stalls. I took it to the mech last night. I may get a chance to run it tomorrow evening. I'll post the results then.

Thanks.
