Hi everyone,

I am new here but have to post here cause I am so frustrated. I have a 1985 evinrude vro that was bypassed and had 1000$ worth of work done about 9 months ago. The motor started and idled fine in my yard over the past several months. Today I took it out on the water on a 16 foot alacraft tri hull and she started just fine. Then we backed her out of the slip and I engaged forward,.... she stalled. I started it back up.. purred like a kitten then put it in drive and went about 40 feet and stalled. This happenned 3 more times before I paddled it back to shore. Any suggestions or help would be so appreciated. I am a newbie but will prolly be here alot as I have acquired 5 boats and 4 motors. Thanks 2 everyone who helps out.

Thanks

Kerry

No it is not oil injected anymore. It is now running like a regular outboard and i AM RUNNING A 50:1 RATIO. Could that have something to do with it?

Thanks

Re: Motor stalls when put in gear

Doubt it, many remove the VRO and premix themselves. Did it just start doing it though after the removal??

When were the carbs last rebuilt? May be time for a bath and rebuild. Check to see if the timer base (starboard side, under the edge of the flywheel, linked to the throttle lever) moves smoothly without sticking when you advance the throttle.

Take the airbox cover off & observe whether the throttle plates are parallel.

Also, the timer base should start it's travel before the throttle plates start to open, otherwise the old girl will croak when you give her the throttle.

Re: Motor stalls when put in gear

The carbs were last rebuilt about 9 months ago and to be honest she sat in my backyard for 9 months. Just this week did I decide to take her off the old boat and put her on our newest aquisition boat that had an old electro drive. Just took her off the old and reinstalled on the new. Purred like a kitten in idle in the yard and even at the lake today. Just dropping it into forward caused her to spit, gag and die. I will take the air cover off 2moro and see if the plates are even and parallel. As far as the TIMER BASE starting before the throttle plates.... U show me where and what and I can tell ya. A real novice but I understand engines fully(old school car engines anyways) 40 years old LOL Thanks for the help so far and in the future.
