Motor Stand

[AMD Rules]

After reading lots of old posts, showing what other members had done to make motor stands I decided to go ahead and make a stand for my two 40HP motors.<br /><br />Two 2x6s next two each other simulate the transom, angled back slightly similar to how they are installed on the boat. I have left enough room for both motors to mount side-by-side, and high enough to operate in a barrel or on muffs.<br /><br />Manufactured from old wood, I only had to purchase the fasteners and some rubber casters (<$20). Painted it with some old rust paint I had. Pretty happy with the results.<br /><br />My Evinrude may not be happy with my paint job though....lol The Merc gets preferential treatment.<br /> Click to see image (116kb)

Looks great AMD. Mine cost me $3 in scrap wood and no paint. I had a dollie that i used for the base and it has wheels on it. Good idea to meassure the height AND width. I had about 1/8" to spare width wise. My Evinrude is packed away for winter while I work away at the boat floor. Happy Thanksgiving.<br />Classicboater

Sweet.......<br /><br />I threw 1 together with some old angle iron I had laying around..........<br />Nothing like the Show Quality unit you've got there........

Nice! I especially like the curve you worked into the top there.<br />If you plan to work on the engines over the winter, do yourself a favor and consider adding a shelf with a raised lip (so stuff won't fall off). Beats using the lower cowling as a toolbox.

Thanks for the compliments. I considered adding a row of small hanging parts bins to the front side, and some handles to help move it around. On second thought a raised-lip shelf may be more useful.<br /><br />Now I just need to lift those darn motors! Nothing a few wobbly-pops, a couple of friends, and an automotive jack wont fix.

AMD, Great looking stand you have there. I would like to ask how high the top of the "transom" is off the floor and did you build it for a short or long shaft motor. Is height OK, or would you change it if you could do over?

Thanks. The transom height from the floor is 43-1/2". It is 40" wide between the rails. Fits great so far, but perhaps I could have lowered it another 5" to 6" or so. Here is mine. I got tired of exercizing on this thing, so I rewired it;<br />It was a "Legacy" workout bench/wieght station that I was allways too sore to use.(probably fron herc'ing them outboards around).<br /><br />

That's a great idea. The recycling association would be proud. Come to think of it, Perhaps I could have used my wife's 1k dollar coat hanger (erm treadmill) for my stand. Fantastic idea, and readily available.

Have both motors mounted, and the controls for the merc. The winterization process went well on the merc, now on to my winter project to make Evin not look so rude.<br /><br />
