Motor swapping question

I currently have a 1998 Skeeter 1775 tiller. It has a 1998 Yamaha 75HP on it right now. I found a Mercury 125HP tiller motor that I want to switch to, but there is a weight difference in the two motors. I have seen the same year, size Skeeters, but the windshield model, have Yamaha 150HP motors on them. The transoms look exactly the same to me. Does anyone have any idea if my boat would hold this 125HP without any problems? Thanks!

Re: Motor swapping question

Being that new of a boat, it should have a capacities plate on it somewhere...

I would look for that, and it will tell you what the max rated HP and weight is.

And I agree Tasha! WOW I wouldn't want to tiller steer anything over about a 25hp lol.

What are you going to do with the yamaha? I am possibly in the market for an upgrade for my boat as well... does it have the ability to use regular controls/steering?

Thanks

Re: Motor swapping question

Boat manufacturers put a capacity plate on their products...tells you the weight of the craft, how much weight is rated to carry, and hp recommendations. Somewhere out there you can find the ratings/recommendations for your boat...exceeding the hp recommendations is not recommended.
