I have a 1971 50 hp evinrude. Does anyone know what the temp. of the engine runs at and how would I check the temp? Is there a gauge or something I can use to check the temp?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

No gauge but you can get a laser pyrometer at home depot or lowes or anywhere like that for about $30. Generally speaking if you can touch the heads for a moment without harming yourself then it's probably not overheating, but if you suspect it is then a pyrometer is a good place to start. You should expect to find the heads ranging around 140-170 in various points.

But to clarify things- are you asking out of general maintenance curiosity or is there something wrong?
