I am currently fixing electrical problems with this engine and I am taking everything step by step but i was hoping to just get as much info for the next step. ;)

heres the problem.

- I have manuel trim on a brownband 75hp ( has the hydraulic cylinder). It is set with the angle of the transom so the prop is pointing way too far downwards causing the boat to swamp ( bow is pushed down) I need to get it trimmed up straight with the keel so i plane and don't swamp.

What do i need to get it to stay in one of those drilled slots on the transom brackets

any suggestions would be great as i am trying to get all of the parts to complete the rebuild all at once.

There should be a stainless steel pin that goes through those holes. You set the position of the pin so the cav plate is level with the bottom of the boat, or slightly up... Depends on the handling characteristics of the boat and your loading... I'll post up a pic in a minute....

Move the tilt rod aft until the boat attitude suits you.

While you're ordering parts something you may find useful is a parts listing for your engine.... Very informative if you're not sure where things go... Also as they are the Merc listing, they have the Merc part numbers... You order the parts from Merc using their own part numbers... too easy!! :D And here's the best thing.. they're not expensive, only about $18 (half the price of the tilt pin)..... Part number is 90-13289.

Cheers,

Yup, i know i dont have that tilt lock pin. Its completely parallel with the transom and i want it parallel with the waterline. I have a feeling i will not only swamp, but also pick up speed. i hope thats the case :D

what is the part? is it like a rod with nuts on each end of the transom brackets

Did you look at my picture? It's a long stainless steel rod with a flopper on the end....

achris, sorry my comp. is too slow  the pic shows the tilt pin and i will order that. Is that really all to it  what holds the engine on it and will it fall out if throttled too high when reversed and or break? probably not but just wondering.

Mercs,

There should be a pair of hooks that go over the tilt pin. They should be up when the engine is in forward gear, so it can kick up if needed. and when you select reverse, those hooks come down and hold the engine in place so it doesn't kick up in reverse.

It doesn't fall out because on the end is a floppy bit, that drops over and stops it backing out....

When you get the pin, all will be understood..... :D

Ya thunk???

You're doing ok now... As you said, one thing at a time... The only thing that should be common to all these.... a manual....

Try HERE. Use the part number 84-813715A1 (and you'll need 4 of them). They may be black, sorry.. :(:( You can get the parts list and the service manual there too (if you haven't ordered them already).

I'd check ebay for those ignition parts too. I found a set of 4 ignition wires for the price I would have paid for one elsewhere. Those plugs were cheaper too.

Re: Motor trimmed to far how to fix?

Hi, I got the tilt pin boat runs better than ever with it tilted just right. I also figured out the kill switch ordeal :D as Achris said, check the safety toggle switch on the control box and what do you know? :D there it was put in the off position

now the only thing there is to do is the electric choke when key is engaged, doesn't shoot up  i checked for power and its getting power so obviously its burned up so im going to get a new solenoid for that. Also the engine running right when im about to throttle up it bogs down and cuts out  then if i gradually let it pick up it goes and sometimes when i squeeze the primer bulb, it picks up and goes when engine is running.

I think those plug wires are still arcing but it seems to run fine to me  i need new ones though i think anyways. got any ideas where to get some? possible yellow cables

H.... Also the engine running right when im about to throttle up it bogs down and cuts out  then if i gradually let it pick up it goes and sometimes when i squeeze the primer bulb, it picks up and goes when engine is running. ...

Told you how to fix this on your 'Using too much fuel' thread.... open (richen) mixtures on each carb, 1/8 to 1/4 turn....

You really should fix those plug leads, they could cause a fire...
