Motor Up or Down during down times?

Hi guys,<br /><br />Any truth to what I heard, which is when not in use, my engine should be trimmed all the way down?<br /><br />Thanks guys, the guy who told me said that "johnsons and evinrudes" especially should be stored that way.<br /><br />Now I imagine all O/B's are the same but I was curious, thanks.

Depends on whether or not you have a freeze potential. If so, down.<br /><br />In the water, no freeze, I prefer up. It keeps the gunk off of the lower unit.

I just leave mine down. The gunk is off the lower unit and prop real quick after a full throttle run....

If your boat is on a trailer, you are better off with the motor down, just in case you forget to take out the transom plug and it rains a lot -- when your whole rig could make a nice upward swing. (This happened to my neighbor's pontoon boat two weeks ago.)

I like mine in a diagonal upside down position.
