I have an Evinrude 15hp outboard model e15cmn that just won't idle. Is the adjustment on the front of the engine, round dial type knob, the adjustment for fuel mixture?
If not can the mixture be adjusted? Am I on the right page?
Any help and ideas will be appreciated.

Tony

Welcome to the site. What year is this engine and when was the last time the carb was rebuilt and the plug was replaced?

Re: motor won't idle

It is a 1996 model. I haven't change the plug since I purchased the motor. They don't have a 100 hours on them. If I pull the choke out half way I can get it to idle but when the choke is in all the way it dies. Could the fuel mix be too lean? I was also suprised to find it didn't have a air filter, is that normal?

The engine is a 1992 model. Sorry for the misinformation.

Hey AJ....! First off...How slow is slow. It wont idel at 100 rs...itel die....it should idel bout 600 or so...BIG help aint I.

What I would do is...run it bout half throtel and spary uh can of decrab down its throat. Itll smoke uh mite...thats normal. Then put uh set of new plugs in it.

If it still dont do to suite ya. Its time to rebuild the carb.

But nothing....I mean nothing will beat following the manual to the letter.

Just an opinion mind ya.

Good luck!

Hi AJ....the model number ya' posted is a little strange. E15CMN. Don't compute :D ...take another look and make sure it's right.

The carb on your engine uses a idle lift tube to get the fuel up to the top of the carb idle passage. If it's never been over hauled and the new style tube installed, most likely the original tube is split. Thus the reason for running with the choke pulled.

Gotta agree with Lee (aka Goodolboy) about the service manual. Save ya' lottsa headachs and money in the long run.

Thanks for postin'

Roger on the manual. I just haven't gotten to it yet. The model number is kind of distorted so I made my best guess at the "c" letter. It could be a G or even a E. I will check again though.
Till I get the manual, is there a bypass to unlock the throttle so I can run the rpm up, out of gear?
