So I took my boat to the water today to test the motor and it started up right away and idled really well for 5 to 10 min. I proceeded to take it to half throttle and it ran like a champ but as soon as I throttled back to neutral it died and never started back up. Any ideas?
thanks sutor. It has good gas in it. I am guessing it is a problem with the ignition system so I am going ahead and checking it
I am going to rebuild the carb and I have already ordered the parts. Just trying to check what I can until I receive what I ordered. Are you sure you want to go that route? Seriously man if you just bought that boat you dont know any history. You need to either do the carb rebuild or have it done. If you want, google CDI troubleshooting and check ignition components. Then if they check out address the carbs. If you are running lean (which we all seem to think that you are) then you are not getting enough fuel/oil to the cylinder, which leads to high temps, scored cylinder walls and melted pistons.
Did you not rebuild them fixing the float problem? I'd be leaning towards water in the fuel, ignition second. Just to be sure test for spark, if there is then it's fuel.
Then that also explains better your "lean sneeze" a dirty jet can cause that easily. Also, just to be sure, put a spark tester on it so you are certain you have spark.
I bet you have water in the gas.

Nope already ruled water out Rock.I'd be leaning towards water in the fuel, ignition second.
