Motor won't start? Fish awhile longer.

On last week's fishing trip, we decided to run across the lake to another "hot" spot but the engine wouldn't start. I cranked it a little while, checked the fuel lines, still no go. Next step, check for spark, but who wants to do that on the water. Something in the back of my mind told me it was something I had forgotten to do, but what?

I figured if I sat and fished a little while it would come to me. When I went to put the T/M back in the water I felt my hand brush against...the emergency kill switch lanyard which was swinging from my belt loop! DOH!

Thats a good one, jtexas! (grin)
Just think, when you get as old as I am you can look forward to sitting the bait bucket in the driver's seat to remind you to pull in the anchor and secure the T/M before you get underway! :D

Funny how that is eh. Just one thing and the darn motor won't start. Been there, done that.
Glad you found out what the problem was.
You never mentioned....did you catch any fish?

thanks for asking, chris, apart from dealing with brittle line on one reel (8 lb stren I just respooled in March, now I found a big section of it that would break just like dried spagetti, luckily discovered it while tying on a lure) and another reel which the handle broke off in my hand with a fish on so I had to hand-over-hand it in to the boat, we did get a mess of white bass plus a couple nice cats.

Last month I had the boys out fishing on the Lower Rappahannock-- Not another boat in sight.

The eleven-year old spins the helm chair he was sitting on and it caught the ignition key. The beaded chain holding the float on the key broke and the key flew across the deck.

Needless to say the spare key was hanging on the bedroom wall back home!

No one could tell if it went overboard or not, it happened so fast. It was a long five minutes or so until we found the key hiding in a crevice.

Jinx

disagree, MY, stupid is as stupid does, IMHO, even when lucky wins out. (no offense, jinx, it'll be a sad day when an eleven year old boy can't spin in his chair).

those beaded chains - every time I use my boat I think, "this chain just isn't secure enough." I'm still using it, though...ain't that a stupid trick, just haven't paid the consequences yet!

and here's another one: always carried the spare key in my pocket, but I lost it last spring & still haven't got around to replacing it.

The spare key now has an honored place in the boat's cabin.

And, the beaded chain still has not been replaced.

In the words of Pogo, "we have met the enemy, and he is us."

Jinx

My spare key is attached to my car keys. That happened after getting 3/4 hour towards the coast before I remembered that I hadden't picked it up before I left home.

Spare car key? Ring up the missus.

Spare House key? That's another story.
I took her car to the dealer, who wanted it overnight. Gave me a courtesy car. OK back 32 km to home before I remembered the (lack of a) house key. Ok I'd wait till she got home from work. When she did, she pointed out that her house key was on the keys for her car - locked inside.
Had to drill out the security screen to get in!

On my boat I keep a spare key under the steering wheel center cap just in case.
