I have 2007 50 HP Yamaha outboard that will not turn off. I turn the ignition switch off and it stays running. I have used the emergency switch and it still stays running. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Motor wont turn off

Check for possible corrosion at the white wire at the harness connector at the engine, if clear check for continuity from the white wire to the remote control on the boat side, key switch. This diagram might help.

Re: Motor wont turn off

I will try that first thing in the morning. I will add that the problems came from the boat being hit by lightning. I have replaced the rectifier in the motor and changed a 20 amp fuse that is on the starboard side.Could there be an issue with any of the modules that would make it stay running?

Re: Motor wont turn off

is this a two or 4 stroke fifty. what you wish to check is the black wire on the harness side to an engine ground, should have 0 ohms.
then with the key off check remote harness black wire to remote harness white. should have 0 ohms.
if its a four stroke there are some other tests if the first two pass.

Re: Motor wont turn off

my guess is someone left off a ground wire.
the 2 stroke shuts down by grounding the white wire from the CDI to the engine block ground via the black and white wires going to the keyswitch.
the 4 stroke 2007 model is a bit different.

I have double checked the grounds and they are reading properly. The boat didn't have any problems until the lightning whacked it. I even took the white wire in the motor and put a ground to it while it was running and it still did not turn off. I also have the oil alarm going off at all times too.

Try to disconnect the pink wire from the temp switch to see if that will make the alarm go away.Could be oil level alarm maybe
Sounds like the CDI is fried from the lightning
